Oat Milk Coffee Debunked

Does oat milk taste good in coffee?

For our non-oat-milk, new-to-oat-milk or keen-to-try-oat-milk drinkers, a very warm welcome. We're glad you're here! For us avid oat milk drinkers, the answer to this question is fairly obvious - hell yeah it tastes good in coffee!

If you haven’t tried oat milk before you could be forgiven for imagining it to taste like porridge or bland cereal, which probably wouldn’t mix too well with coffee. We can understand why those eyebrows might raise a little when the question of oat milk and coffee is raised. Which is exactly what happened when a friend recently asked, and dare we say fairly skeptically, the question: 'does oat milk taste good in coffee?'.

The truth. The whole truth. And nothing but the truth... well, in our opinion at least, is that it’s delicious and creamy with a subtle sweetness that compliments coffee flavours perfectly (our Latte and Mocha have 1.2g and Choc has 1.8g of naturally occurring sugar per serving (250 mL)).

Oh, and while we're at it, we’ve called it chilled coffee because there’s no ice in our can! We recommend you drink it chilled from your fridge. Or, if you really have a hankering for a coffee on the rocks, put some ice in a cup and pour it in. If you want to take it to the next level, and you're responsibly over the age of 18yrs you could always add some Vodka and Amarula...

Now back to some more debunking.

Does oat milk separate in coffee?

The short and sweet response to this - sometimes. Separation is absolutely normal and natural with oat milk because the oat particles are heavier than water - that's just science! Most commercial oat milks that you'll find on supermarket shelves contain a plant-based oil. The oil works with the lecithin to prevent oat milk from separating and contributes not only to the texture, but also the mouth feel. It's a very small amount though, and it won't have any impact on the flavour. To avoid any issues of separation, we recommend you simply shake your can well before use!

How much sugar is in oat milk?

Our 250ml Chilled Coffee with Oat Milk contains 2.1 grams of sugar per serving. We've mentioned before that there are no nasties in our coffee, so we're here to tell you that any sugar in our product isn't sugar we have added, it just the sugar that occurs naturally in oats. It's the added sugar that you need to look out for, but rest assured you won't find any of that in ours. If you're not chasing a sweet drink, or trying not to consume refined sugar, just check the ingredient list of your chosen oat milk.

What does single origin coffee mean?

Coffee beans that have grown in the same, just one, geographic location or crop are called ‘single origin’ beans. Different locations, climates and growing methods result in diverse flavours. It is said that single origin coffee has pure and unique tasting notes as the flavour from its original location is preserved.

So there you have it, a few of your burning questions answered! If you're keen to try it for yourself you can Shop our Double Shot Chilled Oat Milk Coffee or find a store near you.
